Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Maasai Mara National Reserve
Your Mzanga Safaris guide will pick you up from your hotel in Nairobi and begin the journey to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. En route, enjoy a stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for spectacular views of one of Africa’s most remarkable geographical features.
Upon arrival in Maasai Mara, enjoy an afternoon game drive through the reserve, home to the Big Five and an abundance of wildlife including lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, impalas, gazelles, and wildebeests.
Day 2: Full-Day Exploration of Maasai Mara National Reserve
Spend the entire day exploring the vast plains of the Maasai Mara. Search for predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, while observing large herds of herbivores across the savannah. Depending on the season, you may witness the spectacular Great Migration.
An optional visit to a traditional Maasai village offers insight into the culture, traditions, and daily life of the Maasai people.
Day 3: Maasai Mara National Reserve – Lake Naivasha
Enjoy an early morning game drive before departing Maasai Mara for Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. The scenic drive offers beautiful views of Kenya’s countryside and dramatic escarpments as you travel to one of the country’s most picturesque freshwater lakes.
Day 4: Hell’s Gate National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park
Begin the day with a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park, one of Kenya’s most unique parks where visitors can explore dramatic gorges, volcanic formations, geothermal features, and abundant wildlife. Look out for zebras, buffaloes, gazelles, elands, baboons, and numerous bird species.
Later, proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park for an afternoon game drive. The park is famous for its birdlife and thriving populations of black and white rhinos, as well as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and antelopes.
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park – Aberdare National Park
After breakfast, depart for Aberdare National Park, a beautiful mountainous region characterized by dense forests, waterfalls, deep valleys, and moorlands. Spend the afternoon exploring the park and observing wildlife that frequents the waterholes, including elephants, buffaloes, bushbucks, giant forest hogs, and occasionally leopards.
Day 6: Aberdare National Park – Mount Kenya – Nanyuki
After breakfast, continue to the Mount Kenya region. Visit the historic Mau Mau caves and enjoy a guided nature walk along the foothills of Africa’s second-highest mountain. Learn about the area’s history, unique ecosystems, and stunning landscapes while enjoying spectacular views of Mount Kenya.
Day 7: Mount Kenya – Samburu National Reserve
Depart for Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s rugged northern frontier. Samburu is renowned for its striking landscapes and unique wildlife species found only in northern Kenya, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich. Enjoy an afternoon game drive upon arrival.
Day 8: Full-Day Game Viewing in Samburu National Reserve
Spend the day exploring Samburu National Reserve in search of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the reserve’s unique northern species. The Ewaso Nyiro River attracts a wide variety of wildlife and provides excellent opportunities for photography and wildlife viewing.
Day 9: Samburu National Reserve – Nairobi
Enjoy a final morning game drive before departing Samburu and returning to Nairobi. Reflect on the incredible wildlife encounters, diverse landscapes, and unforgettable experiences enjoyed throughout the safari. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, marking the end of your adventure with Mzanga Safaris.
